Pass it on

I received a thoughtful note from a friend who lives on the other side of the country. I had given Nita my copy of a book, I’m Proud of You: My Friendship with Mr. Rogers, by Tim Madigan, because so many qualities attributed to Mr. Rogers reminded me of her.

When I read a book that I own, I often make notes on the back page of jewels I want to remember or revisit. Nita knew this, and kindly returned that page to me with her note.

  1. 27, He was possessed of an other-worldly purity and goodness.
  2. 33, The only thing evil can’t stand is forgiveness.
  3. 66, Real friendship works both ways. Your trust confirms my trustworthiness, your love, my loving.

She added in her note, “your comparison between Mr. Rogers and myself was the highest of compliments. I have loved him for years. Once, while watching Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood with Carol, he spoke to a deep hurt in my life. I was never the same after that program. So, your choice of book for me was perfect.”

We would both have missed a blessing if I hadn’t responded to the urge to pass my book on.

Is there something you should pass along? It’s a joy to bless another..

What will you share with a friend?
